Welcome to Twin Chimneys!

Twin Chimneys is conveniently located in O’Fallon, Missouri just off Hwy K. The subdivision has undergone a wide variety of changes in the past few years.

Twin Chimneys is a premier community of 813 single-family homes. It features three miles of tree lined boulevards and pristine common ground disbursed throughout. It is home to eleven distinct Villages, each with an elected Trustee representative serving on the Association Board. Current Board members are listed on the Trustee Information page and e-mail can be sent directly to them by clicking on their link.

Twin Chimneys also serves as home to Twin Chimneys Elementary School, Sunrise Church, The Developmental Learning Center, a daycare facility; and its more recent new neighbor Del Mar Gardens, offering nursing home and assisted living care to seniors of the area.

Twin Chimneys consists of 36 acres of common ground, three lakes, an exercise trail, tennis courts and three pools connected to the Family Center Clubhouse.

The Family Center is available to rent for parties and events and consists of an upper and lower level. The upper level features a large kitchen and serving areas as well as a wet bar overlooking the pool. The lower level hosts a weight and exercise room for community members.

A playground is located adjacent to the family center and many families enjoy this relaxed comfortable type of park setting.

The pools is open Memorial Day weekend and closes just after Labor Day. The family pool is fully staffed by trained lifeguards.

Area History

According to literature put out by Mason (one of the original home developers):

”The Twin Chimneys  site was originally owned by Judge Barton Bates, who described himself as ‘Barton Bates, judge of the Supreme Court of Missouri, colonel in the . . . St. Charles Enrolled Militia. . . .’ The tract of land Bates purchased was known as Walnut Grove and consisted of 300 acres to the east of Bates Road and 200 acres to the west.

”. . . In about 1835 Bates built a huge, 22-room mansion on his tract of land and named the estate ‘Cheneaux’ or ‘Little Oaks.’ It was the largest single-family residence in St. Charles County at the time and was the center of social life, parties and activities for the region.

”. . . The house could be seen for miles, as it was located on the site’s highest point and had two tall stone chimneys that towered over the trees, serving as a landmark . . .”

Additionally, “[An] Old Rock Church was built in 1868 to replace the Old Dardenne Church, a brick structure destroyed by fire in the Civil War. The land for the Old Rock Church along the Old Trail, now Highway N, was donated by Judge and Mrs. Barton Bates . Judge Bates was the son of Edward Bates , the attorney general of the United States under Abraham Lincoln. The Bates family were members of Dardenne Presbyterian Church. The Old Rock Church was built of limestone quarried from the bluffs of Dardenne Creek and hauled to the church site by members.”
